We had the opportunity to sit down with Michigan rapper Yung Sol to learn about his upcoming project “Solly’s World” and his creative process. Check out our exclusive interview with him below!
Q: What’s good bro! Tell us about yourself! Who is Yung Sol?
Yung Sol: I’m an artist from a small town in Michigan that started making music back in 2017. I’m a pretty lowkey guy that doesn’t say a lot. I just express myself through my music
Q: Why did you decide to pursue a career in music?
Yung Sol:I’ve always loved music and it’s always been a part of my life. When I decided to start making music, it just came very natural to me and I fell in love with it. My music sounds a lot different now, then when I started and that’s what I like so much about it. Every time I record a song, I feel like its better than the last, and I just want to keep getting better and better every day
Q: Talk to us about your creative process!
Yung Sol: My creative process starts with the production. It has to catch my ear for me to record over it. After I find the beat, I come up with melodies and flows. I chase the feeling of the song first and the vibe I want to give out then the lyrics come after.
Q: What are some of your goals as an artist?
Yung Sol: Right now I’m just focused on putting this project out. The bigger picture is always on my mind but I believe in conquering short-term goals first. For the rest of 2022, me and my team are just trying to do more shows and grow the brand.
Q: Talk to us about your upcoming project “Solly’s World”.
Yung Sol: “Solly’s World” is an experience. It’s me. It’s the most vulnerable I’ve ever been and it really takes a dive into my mind and who I am as a person. That’s what makes it special. I’m just excited to put it out and hear everyone’s reaction
Q: Who are some artists and fellow creatives that you work with down in Michigan?
Yung Sol: Where I’m from, there’s not much of a music scene. Honestly, there isn’t much room for creativity at all where I’m from, and I’m trying to change that. Most of the time, I work with my guy SHiM who’s another artist that’s part of our team.
Q: Tell us a funny/cool story about something you’ve encountered during your musical career.
Yung Sol: The first song I ever recorded was at my friend’s house. We were using a yeti blue mic and Mixcraft for the recording program. The setup was jank, but it’s really funny to look back on. We didn’t want to record in front of each other so we would record in a sauna and tell everyone to leave the room.
Q: Anything you wanna say to the people?
Yung Sol: “Solly’s World” officially drops on May 6th. I’m just excited for everyone to hear it, it’s been a minute since I’ve dropped new music. I want to shout out all of UTB. Those are my guys and none of this would be possible without them. We’ll see you in “Solly’s World”.
