Vell Da General (Interview)

Vell Da General – Kung FU (Official Music Video)

Your Lyrical approach is unique, aggressive as well as full of personality, being from Chicago, as well as having witty wordplay, what would you consider your whole mantra as an overall artist?

The mantra is spitting poetry in motion! Painting word pictures lyrically from the hood like Ralphadelaghetto. The General mission is to give em’ music they can groove and grow from.

You’ve been fairly consistent over the years dropping what would be called underrated projects especially your last with  “Morse Code”  Can you elaborate on what you think it will take to wake up the people who are not yet familiar with Vell Da General?

I feel Im missing that one hit that grabs everyone attention! Once I get their attention they
will have to do their research. Just gotta keep pushing!

How do you go about structuring your sound, as well as beat choice process?

I pick beats and write music based on feeling! If a beat gives me goose bumps or make me shed a tear that’s the one! I try to keep my sound raw and uncut without effects or vocoders. I try to keep it like that so my songs and shows sound exact.

“Kung Fu” is taking off especially amongst the streaming platforms, tell us about the concept of that joint, and when can we be expecting an accompanying visual?

The concept of Kung FU was to give them a catchy beat that everybody would rock and still spit something catchy with substance. The track basically means put the guns down, get money, and have a good time! I actually just wrapped up my last scene on the video yesterday. Should be ready in a week. (OUT NOW!)

With the spotlight that’s been on Chicago, in the past almost decade, what is it there people still need to know about the respected midwest City?

That it’s actually better talent than what’s being portrayed in the nooks and crannies. Chicago rappers don’t even live in Chicago the real story is here on the streets and being told by real artists.

How does your faith influence your music?

Faith is all I had before things got better for me. Faith is what drives me to complete the mission.

Your upcoming project “Da Platoon”, tell readers about that and the time it took to create it

Da Platoon album is me and my two childhood friends giving y’all hit after hit. We make music that you can feel and in this album you’ll see our song writing skills. We are also kicking off the Record Label entitled Da platoon!!! We are on a mission and Im introducing the world to my brothers J. Holmes and Legendary.

What’s some of the biggest priorities for you in 2020 musically?

Thee biggest priority in music for 2020 is that I have a fresh decade to bring worldwide attention to my brand. I want to reach the world and that’s the opportunity to excel in the rap game. I got a opportunity to become a mogul!
