Kanye West’s Surprise NYC Show Cancelled After Causing Near-Riot

New York City’s East Village was lit early Monday morning [June 5], as 4,000 Kanye West fans showed up for an impromptu performance that never happened. Word got around about the pop-up show following his Summer Jam performance at MetLife Stadium, resulting in a crowd that began to swell within five minutes of the tweet being sent out. With the destined venue, Webster Hall, filling at a 1,500 person capacity, a line reported to have stretched two streets around the block began to form.

It had already been a frantic day for Kanye fans as his scheduled headline performance at Governor’s Ball had been cancelled due to severe weather conditions. Those eager enough to have remained despite chances looking all the more slim as time clicked by after midnight, did get a chance to scope Ye as he pulled up at around 2 a.m., rearing through the sunroof of his ride. But he was prevented from entering, as the venue announced that was forced to shut the event down. Dozens chased as his vehicle rode away, with news coverage showing people on top of dumpsters, trucks, and scaffolding.

According to sources who were present it took up to two hours for the legion of hopefuls to eventually clear out. Later on Kim Kardashian would snapchat a photo of West on the phone, with a caption that read: “Call the mayor and shut down the block about four streets and put screens up so they could have a party outside, I heard it was sold out already.”
