In 2015, curatorial instinct is more important to a budding artist’s career than ever. The ability to keep one’s finger on the pulse of a constantly evolving music scene is essential to staying ahead of the rest. Brooklyn-based rapper Drigs understands this concept better than most, likely because of his diverse musical upbringing.
From elementary school onwards, Drigs performed as a drummer in orchestras, jazz ensembles, and the like before taking his talents to the studio. As a student at McGill University in Montreal, he honed his production chops in the same classes as outré artists like Grimes and Sinjin Hawke. Since then he has returned to New York and begun to make waves as a recording artist, most notably with the Rome Fortune-assisted, low-key hit “Myung Jak” last April.
Today, Drigs returns to the spotlight with his latest release “No Way”. Dousing his vocals in a disaffected tone, his lyrics cut straight to the point over an extremely flammable Richie Souf production. At this point in his life, music is the main focus and there is simply no time for outside distractions. “No Way” is self-released and available for purchase on iTunes.
