When you come across someone named DJ Yung Vamp on Soundcloud and their newest track is called “Sippin Wok Till My Heart Stop”, your knee jerk reaction—and understandably so—might be to consider him a gimmicky Soundcloud rapper who’s desperately trying to capitalize off of the success of the first wave of “Soundcloud Rappers”.
However, as you dive deeper into his catalog and aesthetic, you come to find that he’s a severely underrated producer who’s vampire aesthetic/brand creates an eerie, mysterious and even sinister vibe that is masterfully crafted for some seriously impressive underground music.
“Sippin Wok Till My Heart Stop” uses a ghastly bell melody, speaker breaking 808s and a Playboi Carti leak to create something that sounds like, well, if vampires became underground trap producers. The sound of lean pouring on his producer tag only adds to this aesthetic.
Beyond having a cult following on Soundcloud, the self proclaimed 1025-year-old has gained cosigns from Joji and the late Lil Peep, and has done records with bbno$, Soulja Boy and Scarlxrd.
